Course Overview
It can be a challenge to ask personal questions to help you better understand a difficult situation that is affecting a friend, colleague, or neighbour. And when you do, answers may be brief, unsatisfying, or hard to grasp due to cultural differences.
Community & Social Studies is designed to give you more knowledge about areas that are often not talked about openly. You will learn about many of the complex issues impacting Khmer communities, deepen your understanding of how these are shaped by the cultural/Buddhist worldview, and learn the vocabulary needed to help you build deeper relationships with people — for work or simply as part of your community.
The course covers rural vs urban communities, the importance of family, mental health, addiction, and poverty & debt, and more.
